New national strategy aims to redefine Dominican gastronomy by 2030

Santo Domingo.- The Sabores Dominicanos Foundation will launch a major national initiative, Gastronomía RD25-30, on September 30 at Hotel El Embajador. This five-year strategic plan aims to position Dominican cuisine as a key cultural and tourism asset, both locally and internationally.

The initiative focuses on seven strategic pillars, including:

  • Creating a national trust fund supported by public and private sectors to finance culinary development.

  • Establishing new culinary schools and institutes across the country.

  • Attracting international instructors to address the shortage of qualified culinary educators.

  • Evaluating and upgrading current culinary education to meet industry needs and quality standards.

  • Linking gastronomy with tourism, recognizing food as a major driver of global tourism and economic growth.

The Foundation warns that while Dominican cuisine is gaining recognition, it lacks the trained workforce needed to maintain growth, service quality, and international competitiveness.

Leaders from the public and private sectors—including government, hotels, restaurants, and academia—are urged to support the initiative and invest in the future of Dominican gastronomy.
