Tourism Minister Collado inspects Seibo Cultural Plaza, announces December inauguration
Santa Cruz, El Seibo, DR.- Dominican Republic Tourism Minister David Collado visited El Seibo on Sunday to inspect progress on the reconstruction of the province’s new multiuse cultural plaza, announcing that the project will be inaugurated in the first weeks of December.
Collado highlighted that the RD$300.8 million investment will transform the facility into a major tourism attraction for El Seibo and the broader Eastern region. Known for its traditional bullfighting events, the new plaza will also host concerts and diverse cultural activities, boosting local economic activity.
“We came to verify that the reconstruction is following the established schedule,” Collado said during a site walkthrough. He emphasized that the modernized venue will mark “a before and after” in the province’s tourism development and will significantly benefit the area’s economy.
The project encompasses 5,700 square meters of construction within a 20,560-square-meter intervention area. Designed to strengthen cultural tourism, the plaza incorporates inclusive architectural features to ensure full accessibility for visitors.
With capacity for 3,500 spectators, the facility includes parking for 107 vehicles, 7 buses, and 36 motorcycles; an outdoor plaza of 17,760 square meters; 4,521 square meters of landscaping; and a 2,567-square-meter children’s area equipped with lighting, security, and modern amenities.
Inside, the complex will feature a 60-person multipurpose hall, box seating for 56 guests, administrative offices, six retail modules, food preparation areas, a kitchen, and an additional children’s section. It will also house storage areas, bull stables for traditional festivities, dressing rooms, a ticket office, an information point, a gift shop, and a waiting room.
Collado reiterated that the initiative is set to become a central hub for cultural expression and tourism, strengthening El Seibo’s unique identity as the country’s only province where the art of bullfighting is practiced.
