Health Ministry and 9-1-1 to control noise pollution during election campaign

Santo Domingo.– The Health Ministry, through its Environmental Health Department, will control politicians that threaten the citizens’ health due to noise pollution during the upcoming election campaign.

Environmental Health unit director Luis Emilio Feliz Roa said that the National Emergency System 9-1-1 will not be selective when attending cases of reported high levels of noise, so regardless of political organization involved, the law will be applied.

During a radio program Feliz Roa warned those who are deady to take to the streets with giant loudspeakers called "discolight" to to prepare because they will be confiscated.

Last month Presidency deputy minister and 9-1-1 spokeswoman Zoraima Cuello said noise pollution has the same magnitude and priority of an emergency such as fire, theft, "or other critical situations that require immediate attention," and urged the public not to despair, and to call many times, because the telephone lines could be congested.
