Presidential candidate says Electoral Board staged an electoral coup

Santo Domingo.- Minority APD party presidential candidate MinouTavarez Mirabal on Wednesday called last Sunday elections irregular andarbitrary, which in her view questions its results.

The also independent deputy said the Central ElectoralBoard -JCE- staged a “true electoral coup” by unlawfully releasing preliminarydata and accused it of unwillingness to ensure a transparent election.

"As if that wasn’t enough, the JCE gave a trueelectoral coup to release the extralegal preliminary data as the president ofthat entity himself called it. Everything that arises from a process fraughtwith so much illegitimacy is illegitimate," Tavarez said in a pressconference.

The political leader thanked her supporters whom in herview showed that the Dominican Republic has faith in new electoral proposalsand said she’ll stay in politics continue working towards real change.
