Lawyer to pay RD$1.0M in damages for slandering vice president

Santiago.- A Santiago three-judge court on Wednesdayconvicted the lawyer and TV commentator Marcos Martínez of slander and forgery,and ordered him to pay RD$1.0 million in damages to vice president MargaritaCedeño, who sued him in 2012.

Criminal Appealte Court judges Brunilda Castillo, WilsonMoreta and Maria Santana ruled against Martinez, who had been acquitted of the chargesby a lower court.

Martinez had accused Cedeño, who was the First Lady at thetime, of having an account of 75 million euros in a Danish bank.
