Dominican Republic, FAO partner to boost agri-food projects in Yamasá

Yamasá, Monte Plata, DR.- The Director General of Community Development (DGDC), Dr. Modesto Guzmán, and the representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), engineer Rodrigo Castañeda Sepúlveda, toured the facilities of the La Hispaniola Integral Development Center (CDI), located in the municipality of Yamasá, Monte Plata province, to agree on actions to relaunch the center.

The head of the General Directorate for Community Development, Dr. Modesto Guzmán, expressed his interest in seeing the CDI become an experimental agricultural center that can benefit residents in the surrounding vulnerable communities.

“We highlight the experience of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in projects of this nature, and we are interested in strengthening actions that will allow us to relaunch the center’s projects,” said Dr. Guzmán.

Meanwhile, the representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), engineer Rodrigo Castañeda Sepúlveda, highlighted the center’s interest in collaborating.

The representatives of the DGDC and the FAO also visited the Agricultural Products Washing and Packaging Center of the Gina Jaragua Agricultural Cooperative and Multiple Services, known as Casa Sombra, in Higuey, Altagracia province. There, women are carrying out a project sponsored by the FAO that seeks, among other things, to improve the quality of local agricultural products.

Dr. Modesto Guzmán and Rodrigo Castañeda Sepúlveda interacted with those who manage the center and with community representatives.

These actions are part of the global strategy adopted by the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, of “Zero Hunger” and Food Security.
