Public Health reports four maternal deaths in first week of 2025

Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Public Health (MSP) reported four maternal deaths in the first epidemiological week of 2025, one more than the same period last year. Infant deaths decreased significantly, with 19 cases compared to 52 in 2024. The ministry also confirmed no reported cases of dengue, cholera, leptospirosis, or COVID-19 during this period.

The MSP emphasized that active case-finding and increased vaccination efforts have been crucial in controlling vaccine-preventable diseases. Regarding diphtheria, the ministry noted a significant decline in cases, from 41 probable and 20 confirmed cases in 2021 to just 2 probable cases in 2024. Rapid response teams, vaccination campaigns, and epidemiological monitoring have been instrumental in achieving this reduction.

The ministry urged the population to maintain up-to-date vaccination schedules to prevent outbreaks of diseases like diphtheria, polio, rubella, measles, tetanus, and whooping cough, all of which remain under control with incidences below 0.0%.
