Two local tycoons also got cholera that sickened Venezuelans

SANTO DOMINGO. – Public Health Minister Bautista Rojas confirmed Thursday that 14 people contracted cholera this weekend in the posh resort Casa de Campo, La Romana, including the business leaders Ricardo Hazoury and Manuel Enrique Peynado.

Rojas said the situation that included the contagion of two Dominicans and 12 Venezuelans is under control

The official said the people became sick from eating lobsters from Pedernales, while other reports point to ceviche.

The official, speaking to the press in the National Palace added that it was the Dominican authorities which alerted Venezuela president Hugo Chavez on the infections.
