US, Canada, EU ambassadors concerned with campaign violence, fairness

SANTO DOMINGO.- The ambassadors from 12 countries met with Dominican Republic president Leonel Fernandez I the National Palace to state their concern with the latest violence which has marred the electoral campaign.

They said they expect a fair and transparent process which reflects the people’s choice in the ballot boxes on May 20.

After the meeting in the office of the Head of State the ambassadors from the U.S., Raul Yzaguirre; of the European Union, Irene Horejs and of Canada, Todd Kuiack spoke to reporters.

"We shared thoughts and impressions on the elections and the common desire which we have so these elections are transparent and strengthen democracy in Dominican Republic," Yzaguirre said.

Horejs said during the meeting they discussed the campaign, the results of the surveys disclosed thus far and the country’s economic situation.
