Aqueduct fix to cost RD$35.0M, no water till Saturday

Santo Domingo.- Santo Domingo Aqueduct (CAASD) director Alejandro Montas on Wednesday said repairs to the ruptured main which has left more than 40 National District sectors without water have begun, and promised to restore service by Saturday.

The official made the announcement in the community Boca de Mana, where a 67-inch pipe was damaged by a swollen river from Hurricane Sandy’s downpours, part of the grid that supplies 77 million gallons of water daily.

Montas said the work in the river channel began after the aqueduct’s main valve was shut to drain the affected pipeline, and that the repair will cost around RD$35.0 million.

The official pledged to provide more than 100 tankers to supply around one million people in the National District, while the work is finished. "We’re giving priority to hospitals, schools and public buildings for their water demand."
