Ex Antinarcotics Colonel extradited to the U.S. in ‘Quirino case’
Santo Domingo.- Justice minister Francisco Domínguez and Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) chief Rolando Rosado on Wednesday announced the extradition to the U.S. of ex coronel Francisco Alonso Hiraldo Guerrero, former head of antinarcotics agency’s Operations Dept.
The officials said the former officer was extradited for his alleged involvement with the drug trafficker and ex Army captain Quirino Paulino, convicted of the same crime in the U.S. three years ago.
Hiraldo Guerrero, being held at DNCD headquarters, was the DNCD Operations chief from 2001 to 2009, during which he was allegedly paid US$100,000 for each drug shipment he protected "with his very work structure in the DNCD."
It was learned in the press conference at the Justice Ministry, that the ex coronel also helped several cartels in the region.
The two officials didn’t specify in which U.S. court Guerrero will be arraigned.
