NY City’s top newspaper questions Yankees’ US$50M Dominican “stadium”

Santo Domingo.- “Felix Lopez is up to his old tricks again,” quips a headline in The New York Daily News on Wednesday, just two days after Felix Lopez, NY Yankees’ executive vice president and chief international officer, took part in an announcement about a new privately funded US$50 million baseball stadium and tourism complex in La Altagracia province, between Punta Cana and La Romana.

“There was only one problem: the Yankees didn’t know anything about the project,” the news source said.

Quoting a source, The New York Daily News adds, “nobody at the Yankees — including managing general partner Hal Steinbrenner, Lopez’s brother-in-law — had been given any heads-up about Lopez’s trip or his announcement.”

And quoting DT, New York City’s top selling newspaper adds Lopez’s statement: “This project would be a major boost to president Danilo Medina’s efforts to promote tourism and will have a major global impact.”
