Justice Ministry shouldn’t manage seized properties: Antinarcotics
Santo Domingo.- National Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) director Julio César Souffront doesn’t agree with letting the Justice Ministry manage the seized properties and prefers a shared responsibility.
He also disagrees with handing over control of the DNCD to the Justice Ministry, since in his view drugs and money laundering are matters is national security, and prefers it remains directly under the Presidency.
Souffront, interviewed by listin.com.do, also disagrees with amending the extradition treaty with the U.S. in effect since 1910, noting that the each case can be handled through international agreements.
He said the Justice Ministry is above the management of seized properties, “it’s duty is to verify compliance with the procedures and due process of the basic rights of each person involved," said Souffront, accompanied by several officials.
