High court says no to acquitting Bahia de las Aguilas ‘thieves’
Santo Domingo.- A panel of National District judges will rule on whether to proceed with the criminal charges against former Dominican Agrarian Institute director Jaime Rodríguez Guzmán, his wife and a brother charged with trying to steal the lands including Bahia de las Aguilas, Pedernales province (southwest).
The Supreme Court made the ruling on a challenged by National District prosecutor Yeni Berenice Reynoso against the panel court’s decision to halt the criminal proceeding on a statute of limitation.
The Supreme Court ruled that the panel court doesn’t have the jurisdiction to decide on the motion seeking acquittal.
In her challenge Reynoso claimed that panel court presiding judge Gissell Méndez ruled on the motion to acquit on the statute of limitation, despite that it requires a decision of all three judges.
