First Lady invites the Pope to Dominican Republic
Vatican City.- First lady Candida Montilla on Sunday revealed that she invited PopeFrancis to visit the Dominican Republic, and called the canonization of popesJohn XXIII and John Paul II a historical encounter for humanity, especially forCatholics.
Montilla,who headed the Dominican delegation, said her husband, president Danilo Medinaexpressed goodwill for the Holy See and for Pope Francis.
She was oneof the few dignitaries to personally greet Latin America’s first Pope andreminded him that Saint John Paul II visited the Dominican Republic threetimes.“We’ll see, we’ll see,” replied a smiling Pope, who reiterated to thefirst lady and to the Dominican people “pray for me.”
