Political hopscotch muddles Dominican electoral scenario
San Cristobal, Dominican Republic.- The switch of politicalaffiliation materialized Thursday by former San Cristobal mayor and longtime seniorleader of the ruling PLD party Jose Montas to seek that same post forms part ofa muddled scenario leading to the May 15 general elections.
The also brother of Economy minister Temistocles Montas willseek the post in San Cristobal in the heels of a pact between the opposition partiesPRSC, the PRM and other allied organizations.
He pledged the typical commitment to “rescue the city fromchaos” left by the previous city hall.
PRM presidential candidate Luis Abinader said Montas would “efficientlyand honestly manage taxpayers’ money.”
Another one jumps the boat
Also present in the ceremony held at Vago restaurant was formerpresident Hipolito Mejia, whose longtime spokesman and PRM leader Hector Guzmanyesterday announced his jump back to the once-powerful PRD party, which is now “allied”with the PLD.
