Dominican Republic’s youngest senator to waive questioned perk

Dominican Republic.- Opposition senator for Puerto Plata province, José Ignacio Paliza, on Wed. said he’ll refuse the tax exemption the lawmakers receive every two years to import any type of vehicle.
The country’s youngest senator said, “today more than ever Dominicans have to decide the country we want, in that order we need to send messages of changes and commitments to society, with the exception that they must start from the highest levels.”
He said he took the step on the controversial perk in response to the population’s demand for equality and transparency. “We cannot continue living under a crisis of institutional credibility, it is necessary to stop along the way and start sending positive messages.”
