3rd ruling party Presidency hopeful makes it official today

Santo Domingo.-  Interior and Police minister Carlos Amarante on Sun. promised “great expectation” expected from his speech today Mon. to announce his run for the Presidency.

“There has been speculation about the possibility that Amarante will resign his post in president Danilo Medina’s Cabinet to seek the nomination to the presidential candidacy of the PLD (ruling party) for the 2020 elections,” the official said in a statement.

The speech of Amarante is scheduled for Monday at 4:00 in the afternoon from a hotel in the capital.

By throwing his hat in the ring, Amarante becomes the third senior PLD leader looking to head its presidential ballot, after former Environment minister, Francisco Domínguez, and Senate president, Reynaldo Pared.
