Request for indefinite entry: US and Haiti authorities approach Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo.- The National Security Council of the Dominican Republic has disclosed that, on two occasions, the United States and the Haitian Prime Minister formally requested the indefinite entry of Ariel Henry into Dominican territory. These requests were made through an informal communication network with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, specifically on March 4 and 5.

According to a statement issued by the Security Council, the Dominican Ministry of Foreign Affairs received information about Henry’s presence in New York after his official visit to Kenya. The governments of Haiti and the United States informally consulted the Dominican Republic about the possibility of the aircraft transporting Prime Minister Henry making an indefinite stopover in Dominican territory.

However, the Dominican government communicated on both occasions that such a stopover would be impossible without a defined flight plan.

Homero Figueroa, the spokesperson and director of Strategy and Communication of the Presidency, affirmed that the National Security Council ensures security at the border and reiterated the willingness to cooperate with the international community while safeguarding national security.

During the authorities’ meeting, representatives of the Dominican Armed Forces reported that border surveillance had been strengthened through the transfer of personnel and additional equipment to ensure order and security nationwide.

The document emphasizes the Dominican Republic’s commitment to cooperating with the international community to facilitate Haiti’s return to normalcy. However, it underscores that any action taken must not compromise national security.

Stand your ground DR. Do not let Henry on your soil.

The stopover of the Haitian Prime Minister on Dominican soil would be an invitation for trouble. His being in the RD would be strongly resented by the public, especially the superpatriots. The RD does not want to be caught up in the chaos of playing nursemaid to Haitian politicians. Best to stand aside.
