ECPA meeting in Punta Cana will focus on clean, sustainable, and renewable energy
Punta Cana.- The sixth ministerial meeting of the Energy and Climate Alliance of the Americas (ECPA), scheduled for March 14 and 15 in Punta Cana, will focus on clean, sustainable, and renewable energy, according to an announcement by the Ministry of Energy and Mines today.
Under the theme “Renewable Energies of the Americas: Integration and Innovation,” the meeting aims to catalyze a regional commitment to expedite the shift toward clean energy. It seeks to foster dialogue between the public and private sectors, identifying opportunities and challenges in energy transition and sustainable development.
The agenda also emphasizes encouraging private investment in the sector and fortifying regional cooperation mechanisms to support energy transition efforts, according to a ministerial statement.
The participants will delve into discussions on “new technologies in the field of energy transition, such as batteries or energy storage systems, to moderate the fluctuations of renewables, which will translate into the modernization of the Dominican system,” the statement added.
Distinguished attendees include the Secretary-General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro; the Prime Minister of Guyana, Mark Phillips; and the Foreign Minister of the Dominican Republic, Roberto Álvarez.
Other notable figures present will be Andrés Rebolledo, Executive Secretary of the Latin American Energy Organization (Olade); Rayén Quiroga, Head of the Energy and Water Unit of the Economic Commission for Latin America (ECLAC); and Lilia Burunciuc, Director of Operations for the Caribbean at the World Bank (WB).
