JAC denies opening air bridge with Haiti

Santo Domingo.- The President of the Civil Aviation Board (JAC), José Marte Piantini, has refuted claims regarding the opening of an air bridge between the Joaquín Balaguer (La Isabela) and María Montés airports in Barahona with Haiti, as announced by the United Nations mission in Haiti.

The JAC’s press department has confirmed to N Digital that the only existing resolution in force concerning Haiti is the one establishing airspace regulations, amidst the escalating violence in the neighboring country over recent weeks.

Reports emerged yesterday regarding the United Nations’ intention to establish an “air bridge” between Haiti and the Dominican Republic to facilitate the flow of humanitarian aid to the crisis-hit nation, as announced by the UN mission in Haiti.

“The United Nations in Haiti is actively working towards establishing an air bridge with the Dominican Republic to ensure the smooth transportation of aid and personnel,” the mission stated. They further mentioned plans to temporarily relocate some personnel outside of the country and anticipate the arrival of additional crisis response personnel.

Amidst dire circumstances in Haiti, where four million people are facing acute food insecurity, with one million on the brink of famine, the director of the UN food agency in the region, Jean-Martin Bauer, raised concerns during a virtual press conference. He emphasized the alarming situation exacerbated by recent spikes in gang violence, which have further displaced 15,000 people in Port-au-Prince during the first weekend of March alone.

This is all smoke and mirrors.

There is a lot going on behind the scenes among the international players, the RD, and Haitian actors to clear the air. Meanwhile, the RD will entertain denial games.

When the opportunity presents itself of acquiring financial gains from an air corridor the RD will be very open to it. The RD is most likely singing a tune to become a logistics center for all, military, commercial, humanitarian, and press badges entering and leaving Haiti. It is most likely is being negotiated behind the smoke and mirrors.

JAC does not speak for the country. The President will do it.

Is in the best interest for our government to facilitate, the UN to send food and supplies to Haiti. Last thing our country needs is a massive wave of people that are hungry

Well, I’ve spent lots of time along the frontera and in both places. Served as an advisor to the Dominican Ejercito for 2 years, and am happily married to a Dominicana. I can assure Fulano, Fulana & all the rest commenting/reading here today – The Dominican Military & National Police (both being infinitely corrupt & incompetent) will be able to do nothing to stop the MILLIONS of people starving and on the brink of death – if & when they decide to rush the fence/river. Even bigger problems would be if even small groups of the some 50 thousand heavily armed gangsters in Haiti decide to press East into the R.D. They are well armed, experienced & now battle hardened There must be a strong international response soon, or there WILL BE major problems in the Republica. Oh yeah, and as far as this air bridge they are discussing – if the Dominicans think they can make even a few pesos by letting someone else do work & use an airport in their country – You can bet your a$$ it is in the works. In my time living there for 5 years – I never met a Dominican that wouldn’t sell just about anything for un mil pesos.
