Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Government evacuates 27 nationals from Haiti amid escalating violence and insecurity within the nation. These individuals, predominantly Dominicans residing in Haiti, opted for voluntary evacuation due to the challenges of departing through conventional means.
Facilitated by the Dominican Embassy, requests for evacuation were forwarded to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The operation, executed with the assistance of three helicopters from the Dominican Republic Air Force, a branch of the Ministry of Defense, ensured the safe return of these citizens.
Upon arrival at the heliport of the Joint and Interagency Task Force in Jimaní, Independencia province, the evacuees—comprising 18 men, 7 women, and 2 minors—were warmly received by personnel from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and military officials. Subsequently, most were transported to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where they were greeted by directors overseeing the Protection of Nationals and Consular Affairs, as well as protocol officers and family members. Others were directed to various provinces across the country.
Crucially, authorization for Dominican Government aircraft to enter Haitian airspace was granted by the Foreign Ministry of Haiti. The Dominican Embassy in Haiti continues to maintain open channels of communication for any Dominican nationals requiring assistance from their government amidst the ongoing challenges in Haiti.
