Dominican authorities and U.S. collaboration against drug trafficking

Barahona, DR.– Anti-narcotics authorities in the Dominican Republic have initiated a sweeping operation across the southern region, employing sea, air, and land resources, with crucial backing from the United States. The operation encompasses numerous simultaneous raids across multiple provinces targeting individuals involved in drug trafficking and money laundering endeavors.

Commencing at dawn on Wednesday, the operation has persisted into the early hours of the morning, spearheaded by the National Drug Control Directorate and the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic. Naval units of the Dominican Navy, as well as planes and helicopters from the Armed Forces and the Army infantry, are actively engaged in coordination efforts.

Furthermore, air support has been bolstered by helicopters from the United States Southern Command, while intelligence information from U.S. anti-narcotics agencies has been instrumental in guiding the operation.

According to sources cited by EL DÍA, groundwork for this operation commenced over eight months ago, entailing extensive data collection on drug trafficking activities within the southern region and individuals associated with these illicit networks.

Several multimillion-dollar seizures in recent weeks have stemmed from the investigative efforts leading up to this comprehensive operation, which has been executed since the early hours of the morning.
