Dominican Armed Forces welcome first Chinese Defense Attaché

Santo Domingo.- The General Staff of the Dominican Armed Forces recently participated in a reception ceremony welcoming the first Defense Attaché of the Chinese Embassy in the Dominican Republic, Army Colonel Gao Peng.

Held at the headquarters of the Chinese embassy in the country, the event was presided over by the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Luciano Díaz Morfa, ERD, alongside His Excellency Chen Luning, the ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in the country, and Army Colonel Gao Peng. This gathering coincided with the upcoming sixth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between both nations.

The ceremony signifies a significant milestone in the bilateral relations between China and the Dominican Republic, demonstrating the strengthening of friendship and mutual cooperation over the past six years of diplomatic ties.

During the event, the ambassador of the People’s Republic of China and the newly appointed military attaché expressed their gratitude to the Dominican government for their collaboration in the evacuation of Chinese nationals stranded in Haiti. They also appreciated the warm reception during their recent visit to the military institution, where they participated in a flag-raising ceremony conducted by members of the Armed Forces, paying homage to the national symbols.

The presence of Dominican military authorities at the ceremony underscores the commitment of both China and the Dominican Republic to continue fostering a shared future in terms of defense and security.

Accompanying the Minister of Defense were general officers, vice admirals, and senior officers from the Dominican Armed Forces and the National Police.
