Central Electoral Board initiates overseas electoral material dispatch for May elections
Santo Domingo.- The Central Electoral Board (JCE) announced on Monday the commencement of the official dispatch of electoral materials for the upcoming overseas presidential and congressional (deputies) elections, scheduled for May 19th of this year.
Present at the event overseeing the dispatch of these electoral kits were JCE President Román Andrés Jáquez Liranzo, along with regular members Dolores Fernández Sánchez, Patricia Lorenzo Paniagua, and Samir Chami Isa. Also in attendance were various officials including Well Sepúlveda, Director of Dominican Vote Abroad; Mario Núñez, Director of Elections; Johnny Rivera, IT Director; Major General Juan José Otaño Jiménez and General Juan Carlos Jiménez Hernández, Chief and Deputy Chief of the Electoral Military Police, respectively; Ángel Valentín, Director of Civil Security; as well as delegates from accredited political organizations and other officials.
A total of 1,566 electoral kits and 2,015 Electronic Data Entry and Transmission (EDET) cases, amounting to 3,581, were dispatched. These materials will be utilized in 46 locations across 35 countries spanning Europe, Central America, South America, the United States, and Canada, as detailed in a press release.
“We are formally commencing the air deployment to distribute the electoral and technological materials to the overseas Dominican community eligible to vote,” specified Jáquez Liranzo. He highlighted the presence of 23 Overseas Central Electoral Liaison Offices (OCLEEs) worldwide, covering 35 countries and 46 cities, where approximately 864,000 Dominicans are eligible to vote.
Director of Voting Abroad, Well Sepúlveda, expressed gratitude for the support of the Military Electoral Police during the material transfer, specifically acknowledging the contributions of Major General Juan José Otaño Jiménez and General Juan Carlos Jiménez.
Sepúlveda provided insight into the dispatched materials, mentioning that 1,566 electoral kits would contain approximately 590,000 ballots for presidential elections and deputies representing overseas constituency number 1, along with around 178,000 ballots for constituency number 2 and approximately 162,000 ballots for foreign and presidential deputies, totaling over 900,000 distributed ballots across the three constituencies. Additionally, 2,015 cases containing digitization, scanning, and transmission equipment (EDET) were included in the deployment.
