Dominican Foreign Ministry refutes claims of issuing Visas to Haitians
Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mirex) denied allegations made by former President Leonel Fernández, who stated that over 400,000 visas have been issued to Haitian citizens this year. Mirex clarified that since President Luis Abinader ordered the closure of Dominican consulates in Haiti, no visas have been granted to individuals from that country.
The ministry emphasized that no travel agencies or tour operators are authorized to issue Dominican visas, dismissing the claims as false. The statement also addressed comments attributed to former Secretary of the Armed Forces, José Miguel Soto Jiménez, who reportedly supported Fernández’s assertions.
Earlier this week, Leonel Fernández alleged that despite the supposed consulate closures, Dominican authorities granted more than 39,000 tourist visas to Haitians in September alone. He criticized the government’s stance on immigration, calling for clarity on the issue.
