Government presents Meta RD 2036, a comprehensive development plan for the country
Santo Domingo—President Luis Abinader and Vice President Raquel Peña yesterday presented the initiative “RD 2036 Goal prioritized in the 2024-2028 Government Plan” to the National Competitiveness Council (CNC) at a lunch with businessmen and officials at the National Palace.
The plan was presented by the CNC’s executive director, Peter A. Prazmowski, who explained that its objectives are to achieve the country’s comprehensive development through strengthening production entities, generating competitive jobs, and improving public services.
President Abinader recounted the government’s progress in education, homicide control, drinking water, and other decisive areas.
He explained that they have been working for two years and have been followed up so that they can also be fulfilled based on the multi-year budget that the Government hGovernment028.
He added that the objective of Goal 2036 is to identify all the sectoral, transversal, and intersectoral actions of the second generation that will promote the axes of integral growth.
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the government’s hunger level has dropped from 8.7 to 4.6.
“If we manage to drop two more points, which is already below 2.5 is zero hunger. I want to tell you that all these statistics are based not on a wish, nor on a dream, but on a possible reality.”
He said that the formality of employment is one of the most challenging, but with the support of the productive and entrepreneurial sectors, work will be done to comply with it.
On the other hand, he said that this year, the homicide rate per 100,000 inhabitants is 9.6%, and he was confident that it will be less than 10 in 2028. Thus, he said, these objectives can be perfectly achieved.
Regarding access to drinking water, President Abinader indicated that it has been increased in four years to guarantee the improvement in that service.
He pointed out that half “of these objectives are achieved with a single work, which is the aqueduct from Santo Domingo through Hatillo, which are 10 cubic meters.”
He cited the technical educational centers used by the Dominican Government to train young people in various areas, such as the Catholic Technical University of Barahona, the ISA University, the Technological Institute of Dajabón, and the Loyola Technical Institute.
He praised the work of the Loyola Polytechnic and the expansion of the National Institute of Professional Technical Training (Infotep), the Technological Institute of the Americas (ITLA), the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), and the polytechnics of the Ministry of Education in the Dominican Republic, all of which aim to improve access to better education and professional training.
Prazmowski detailed each of the plan’s objectives and the new model of productive development: physical and human capital and productivity, private and local investment, foreign direct investment, and public infrastructures, and what is the depreciation and congestion of capital.
