Dominican Republic collaborated with five countries on public procurement best practices
Santo Domingo.- In 2024, the Dominican Republic, through the General Directorate of Public Procurement (DGCP), provided technical assistance to five countries in the region, focusing on public procurement best practices. The country shared its expertise in areas such as data science, transparency, sustainable purchasing, and inclusive procurement models with Colombia, Honduras, Peru, Guatemala, and Ecuador. These efforts were part of the agenda of the Inter-American Government Procurement Network (RICG), under the leadership of DGCP Director Carlos Pimentel.
Key exchanges included a visit from Colombia’s National Public Procurement Agency, where discussions centered on the inclusion of MSMEs and sustainability policies. Honduras focused on transparency and digitalization, with plans to adopt the Dominican Electronic Public Procurement System. Peru’s delegation explored innovation and standardization, while Guatemala learned about the Dominican anti-corruption measures. Ecuador’s authorities focused on promoting gender-sensitive contracting to enhance the participation of women in public procurement.
The DGCP also participated in 13 international forums, strengthening alliances and enhancing institutional capacities. Notable events included the Global COST Managers Workshop in Colombia, the WTO’s Advanced Global Workshop in Switzerland, and the International Congress on Public Procurement in Argentina. These engagements furthered the DGCP’s role as a regional leader in promoting efficient, inclusive, and sustainable public procurement systems.
