Dominican Republic achieves record in greenhouse vegetable production
Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Agriculture announced a significant increase in controlled-environment sowing (greenhouses) across the country, with an additional 1,593,433 square meters of production area added between 2020 and 2024.
Minister Limber Cruz revealed that sowing areas grew from 8.94 million square meters in 2020 to over 10.5 million square meters today. Additionally, monthly greenhouse vegetable production surged from 12.2 million pounds to more than 22 million pounds, marking an increase of 9.8 million pounds compared to the previous administration.
This growth is attributed to the government’s focus on expanding sowing areas, supporting producers, and enhancing agricultural policies as part of President Luis Abinader’s agenda. Minister Cruz highlighted that agricultural production overall has risen by more than 14%, adding 1.37 million tasks to the nation’s agricultural output.
