Over 6,700 Haitians voluntarily return

Santo Domingo.- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) reported that 6,779 Haitian citizens voluntarily returned to their country in the first 15 days of this year. This group is part of 14,633 Haitian nationals repatriated during 101 immigration interdiction operations conducted across various provinces.

The DGM stated that voluntary returns occurred alongside arrests in border areas, where individuals were handed over directly to Haitian authorities. These actions align with President Luis Abinader’s expanded interdiction plan, announced last October, aimed at regulating irregular migration and maintaining order in Dominican communities.

Additionally, 7,854 Haitians were deported after processing at control centers in Haina, Santiago, and Dajabón, undergoing protocols such as fingerprinting, photographs, and recidivism checks. The operations, supported by multiple government and security agencies, adhered to Law 285-04 and international human rights standards, ensuring a coordinated and respectful approach.
