Minerd and Mescyt merger nears completion

Santo Domingo.- More than 500 citizen recommendations were submitted through an online consultation regarding the proposed merger of the Ministry of Education (Minerd) and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Mescyt) in the Dominican Republic. The initiative aims to establish a unified state body to regulate pre-university and higher education.

During a meeting led by Minister of Public Administration Sigmund Freund, the special commission tasked with drafting the legislation reviewed suggestions focused on decentralization, university autonomy, education quality, technology integration, and strategies for system improvement. Contributions were also received from key stakeholders, including the Dominican Association of University Rectors (ADRU), the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), and other academic organizations.

The commission integrated these recommendations into the draft, which remains under construction as feedback continues to flow. A follow-up meeting is planned to finalize the document before presenting it to the Executive Branch and National Congress. The commission includes representatives from various educational associations and government ministries, reflecting a collaborative approach to shaping the future of Dominican education.
