COE issues Alert on dangerous waves and safety guidelines for vessels

Santo Domingo.- The Emergency Operations Center (COE) announced on Thursday that the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET) has issued a weather bulletin warning of worsening wave conditions along the country’s coasts caused by strong winds. These adverse conditions are expected to persist for the next 48 to 72 hours.
INDOMET has advised operators of fragile, small, and medium-sized vessels to remain in port between Cabo San Rafael in La Altagracia and Cabo Cabrón in Samaná, citing dangerous waves and strong winds on the Atlantic coast. On the Caribbean coast, extreme caution is recommended for navigation near the shoreline, with a strong warning against venturing further out to sea.
“This precaution is essential to safeguard the lives of sailors and reduce the risk of maritime accidents, particularly in areas most affected by adverse weather,” the COE emphasized in its statement.
