Dominican Republic launches “Zero Scrap Plan 2025”

Santo Domingo.- On January 23, 2025, the Dominican Republic took a significant step toward environmental sustainability and road safety with the first irreversible shredding of scrap vehicles under the “Zero Scrap Plan 2025.” This initiative aims to remove outdated and polluting vehicles from circulation, reducing environmental and visual pollution.

The plan offers economic incentives through partnerships with dealers, insurers, banks, and financial institutions to encourage the purchase of modern, eco-friendly vehicles. Supervised public shredding ensures retired vehicles are permanently removed from use, with official registration and license plate deregistration managed by authorities.

Beyond transportation, the initiative supports public transport improvements and enhances the country’s image. Complementary projects, such as Santo Domingo Este’s “Zero Scrap” program, target abandoned vehicles and enforce regulations. These efforts reflect the nation’s commitment to cleaner air, safer roads, and improved quality of life for its citizens.

That’s hilarious 🤣🤣🤣
Like the truckloads of construction workers, the el campos, and the Haitian moto-taxi guys are difficult to locate 🤣🤣🤣
If they offer 5 pesos per find, I’ll be rolling in money.
But I’m pretty sure this article is about pollution. Maybe start w reduction in single-use plastics…

One of the ways to push Haitians out of Dom.Rep is to take away construction work from them, and for the builders to pay Dominicans more money there has to be goverment invloment some kind of insentive. It’s a suggestion here.

I don’t think that really matters since they’re still fields of garbage washing up on the South Coast beaches every year and they’re dumping diesel fuel into the ocean.

Yes. Single-use plastics is #1 visual pollution issue.

Good start, but it’s more than 30 years late. The government will need to deal with the public transportation UNION (sindicato). Most of them (ALL) with no car insurance or driver license and fake license plates. The government needs to send everyone to retake driving class. By the way check all the motorcycle drivers they’re nuts. To be able to fix this issue it starts with the director of transportation and police enforcing the law and issuing TICKETS. There’s an other issue (the government haven’t forcast) with the ELECTRIC SCOOTERS. It’s a animal 🎪. By the way I enjoy SDQ.
