Opret and PUCMM partner to advance railway system training

Santo Domingo.- The Office for the Reorganization of Transport (Opret) has signed a collaboration agreement with the Pontifical Catholic University Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) to develop advanced academic programs aimed at training professionals in railway-related fields. This initiative seeks to address the growing demand for skilled labor in the sector, reduce reliance on foreign expertise, and bolster local capacities to support the country’s expanding railway system.

Opret’s Executive Director, Rafael Santos Pérez, emphasized the agreement’s forward-looking vision, highlighting its role in preparing human resources to sustain and expand mass transportation systems. Reverend Secilio Espinal, PUCMM’s rector, underscored the importance of education in driving institutional development and ensuring the availability of skilled personnel for maintenance, support, and progressive growth in railway operations.

PUCMM has made significant strides in postgraduate program development, aiming to train both local and regional professionals. Complementing this initiative, Opret collaborates with Infotep and Germany’s DB Rail Academy to provide technical training at the Mamá Tingó Training Center. These efforts align with President Luis Abinader’s commitment to enhancing citizens’ quality of life through efficient and accessible railway development, positioning the Dominican Republic as a regional leader in public transport innovation.
