Building collapse in La Romana: “I thought it was a dream, but it was real,” says survivor of the tragedy

La Romana — Fito Elien, survivor of the collapse recorded this Friday in Villa Nazaret, in La Romana, narrates the moments he lived before and during the tragedy, which blinded the lives of at least three deceased, including his cousin.
“We just had lunch at 12, the four of us were sitting together on the balcony, one was in the hallway and I was in the little room, it was a dream for me as if I was sleeping, there I heard that noise and everything went down,” he told channel 37 CDN.
He explained that at the time of the tragedy five people were having lunch, including one of the victims who was in another place of the building under construction.
“There were three of them in front, with a wall that separated us from them”
“I received a lot of blows, look at my back, my right foot is swollen, we had a week working on that construction,” he said.
He said that among the fatalities is his cousin Rodrigo Elién.
They expect the owner of the work to offer them compensation for physical and moral damages.
Reports of the collapse
Of the trapped workers, all of Haitian nationality, two were rescued alive and treated at a health center in the area and are out of danger.
