Dominican government comments on U.S. suspension of funds for Haiti

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican government suggested that the U.S. decision to suspend funds for the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) in Haiti might be part of a broader freeze on international assistance to the country.

Through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX), officials reiterated President Luis Abinader’s statement during the February 3 press briefing, expressing hope that the U.S. will continue funding justified aid programs, particularly those supporting Haiti’s security efforts.

MIREX emphasized that international funding is crucial for the MSS, which plays a vital role in curbing drug trafficking and transnational organized crime stemming from Haiti’s crisis. The mission’s success directly impacts Haiti’s security and the stability of the Dominican Republic, the region, and the United States.
