Faride, in a meeting with musicologists: “The peace and tranquility of the population are not negotiable”

Santo Domingo — In an effort to improve citizen coexistence, the Minister of Interior and Police, Faride Raful, together with the director of the National Police, Major General Ramón Antonio Guzmán Peralta, and the director of the Alcoholic Beverage Control (COBA) program, Fermin Domínguez, held a meeting with representatives of the entertainment industry, including musicologists, bar owners, nightclub owners, and owners of auto ornaments.
The main objective of the dialogue, held at the Ministry of Interior and Police facilities, was to listen to the commercial sector’s concerns regarding noise pollution and citizen safety regulations while seeking solutions that benefit both merchants and the general population.
Minister Raful stressed that the country’s homicide rate remains at 8.42 per 100,000 inhabitants, an indicator of progress in security. However, he emphasized that “the peace and tranquility of the population are non-negotiable” and urged citizens to denounce any situation that disturbs public order.
For his part, Major General Guzmán Peralta explained that police agents act in a protocol manner in each case, starting with the measurement of decibels of the music and registering the seized speakers to keep their owners identified and can be delivered after exhausting the corresponding process.
Among the proposals presented, the authorization of more tolerance zones in different localities, including Cabral (Barahona), Enriquillo, Nagua, and Jimaní, was proposed to regulate musical activities and guarantee respect for citizen coexistence.
The Ministry of the Interior and Police and the National Police ratified their willingness to continue dialogue with the different sectors to seek balanced solutions that generally favor both merchants and society.
