Government and UNICEF to launch reintegration plan for exiled Dominicans
Santo Domingo.- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM), the social program Supérate, and UNICEF have announced a new initiative to support the reintegration of Dominicans deported from other countries, particularly the United States. The plan will provide social assistance, psychological support, and resources to help returnees reintegrate into the workforce and society with dignity.
The decision was made during a meeting between Supérate director Gloria Reyes, UNICEF representative Carlos Carrera, and DGM head Vice Admiral Luis Rafael Lee Ballester. They also discussed potential relocation strategies for repatriated families, though no such cases have been reported yet. The initiative aims to ensure returnees receive the necessary support for a smooth transition.
An inter-institutional team is being formed to address the social and economic needs of these individuals. Authorities emphasized that most returnees, even those who lived abroad illegally, are hardworking and honest people who can contribute productively to the country’s development.
