Dominican poultry industry projects 350 million eggs monthly

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic’s poultry industry projects a monthly production of 350 million eggs for February and March 2025, reflecting steady growth in supply, according to José Luis Polanco, president of the Dominican Poultry Association (ADA). Since 2019, the country has implemented an avian influenza vaccination program to protect local production and stabilize the industry. Egg exports have also surged, with shipments averaging 67 million units per month in 2024 to markets such as Cuba, Aruba, and Haiti.

Despite global price fluctuations, the Dominican Republic has maintained stable egg prices, ensuring competitive rates in the region. In response to production challenges in the U.S., the country has expanded output to strengthen both local and export markets. Per capita egg consumption has risen to 290 eggs annually, nearing Mexico’s regional high of 367. This growth is driven by a greater appreciation of eggs as a nutritious food and efforts to dispel health concerns.

The sector has also evolved through branding, with over ten commercial egg brands emerging in the last five years. Producers have shifted from selling generic farm-gate eggs to implementing marketing strategies that enhance consumption. Government support has played a crucial role, with the President encouraging expansion to ensure local supply and strengthen regional trade participation.
