Congress prepares for President Abinader’s accountability speech on February 27

Santo Domingo.- The National Congress has undergone renovations to welcome President Luis Abinader, who will deliver his annual accountability speech this Thursday, February 27, from the National Assembly hall. This marks his first address in his second term after his re-election in May 2024. Vice President Raquel Peña will accompany him as part of the commemoration of the 181st anniversary of National Independence.

A total of 222 legislators, along with diplomats, government officials, business leaders, and political representatives, have been invited. The event will begin at 9:00 a.m. with the opening of the first ordinary legislature for the 2025-2026 legislative year. Bicameral commissions will be assigned to receive the President upon his arrival. A floral tribute at the Altar of the Fatherland will also take place.

President Abinader and First Lady Raquel Arbaje are scheduled to arrive at 9:45 a.m., receiving military honors before being welcomed by congressional leaders. As mandated by the Constitution, the President’s address will provide an overview of the country’s financial, economic, and social performance, along with future government priorities.
