Dominican Republic to host major international events
Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic has been selected to host several high-profile international events, further cementing its status as a key regional hub. Among the most notable gatherings are the 2025 Summit of the Americas, the Inter-American Press Association (IAPA) Assembly, the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games, and the 2027 International Olympic Committee (IOC) Assembly. These events highlight the country’s political stability, economic growth, and increasing global influence. Additionally, Punta Cana will be the primary venue for most of these prestigious meetings, reinforcing its reputation as a premier destination.
The Summit of the Americas, to be held in December 2025, will mark the first time the Dominican Republic hosts this major political forum, which includes leaders from 35 nations. President Luis Abinader views the event as an opportunity to promote regional cooperation on key issues such as economic recovery, energy transition, and social inclusion. Meanwhile, in October 2025, the IAPA Assembly will bring together top media representatives to discuss press freedom, a field where the Dominican Republic has consistently ranked among the most respected nations in the region.
In July 2026, the country will host the 25th Central American and Caribbean Games, featuring 6,000 athletes from 37 nations competing in 40 sports. This milestone event will coincide with the centennial of the games. Additionally, in 2027, the Dominican Republic will welcome the IOC’s 146th Assembly in Punta Cana, following a competitive selection process. These events not only reinforce the country’s leadership in sports, tourism, and diplomacy but also offer significant economic and reputational benefits.
