Dominican Republic and France strengthen cooperation for development

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic and the French Development Agency (AFD) have reinforced their partnership to promote economic and social progress through projects in key sectors such as transportation, urban development, climate, biodiversity, education, water and sanitation, health, governance, and renewable energy.

As part of this effort, both parties signed the “Cooperation Roadmap 2025-2027”, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX). The agreement was formalized during the visit of Laurent Saint-Martin, France’s Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade and French Citizens Abroad. Dominican Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez highlighted that this collaboration supports the country’s social and ecological transition by mobilizing financial resources and technical assistance from AFD and its subsidiaries, Proparco and Expertise France.

The partnership has already contributed to major initiatives, including the expansion of the Santo Domingo Metro and Cable Car, as well as the Sierra Plan for reforestation. Saint-Martin emphasized the strong and transparent dialogue between both nations, describing it as a model of cooperation amid global uncertainties.

They want low-quality work instead of real competition for significant initiatives in the country. Germany and Japan offer better designs and competitive prices for infrastructure projects, and because of the political corruption, the inferior designs get picked. It’s time for the Dominican government to put the citizens first instead of their interests.
