Luis Abinader approves land for the creation of the LASO Foundation Animal City

President Luis Abinader Corona has approved the delivery of the land for the construction of Ciudad de los Animales, a project promoted by Fundación LASO, after more than three years of management. The news was personally communicated to Lorenny Solano, president of the foundation, by the director of the State Sugar Council (CEA) and National Assets, Rafael Burgos Gómez, during his visit to the City of Angels stand at the 2025 Agricultural Fair.
“By instructions of Mr. President of the Republic, Luis Abinader Corona, we have come to this stand to inform you that, by disposition of Mr. President, the corresponding and necessary land will be assigned to start the construction of the City of Angels. This is an important city for the country, the city of Santo Domingo East and the animal kingdom, because it will protect those who, for some reason, are in a vulnerable condition, and have no voice,” explained Burgos Gómez.
By order of the President, 100 tareas of land will be granted in a first phase in the municipality of San Luis, Santo Domingo province, and the remaining areas contemplated in the project will be reserved to be assigned as its development progresses.
“This is going to help us as a country to have the necessary conditions to protect the animals. The government of President Abinader is happy with this project, will be supporting it and we will be working together with the managers of this important initiative so that it becomes a reality. We will do everything possible to contribute to the success of City of Angels,” said Burgos Gomez.
“Today is a historic day for animal protection in the Dominican Republic. After more than three years of struggle and tireless management, we finally see a firm step towards the materialization of Ciudad de los Animales. I am deeply grateful to President Luis Abinader for listening to our clamor and keeping his word, demonstrating his commitment to animal welfare and to a cause that will positively impact our society. This is just the beginning of a great project that will change the lives of thousands of animals and the people who love and protect them,” stated Lorenny Solano.
Ciudad de los Animales is a unique project in the Dominican Republic that seeks to establish an integral space for protecting, rescuing, and rehabilitating animals in vulnerable situations. Multiple sectors have supported the LASO Foundation initiative, and its materialization will mark a milestone in the country’s fight for animal welfare.
With the approval of this land, a new stage is opened for this project, which has been underway for more than three years to provide a sustainable solution to the problem of abandoned animals.
