New toll plaza on Duarte Highway begins operations this Sunday

Santo Domingo.- Rizik Lugo, director of the RD Vial trust, announced that the new toll plaza at kilometer 32 of the Duarte Highway will become operational this Sunday, replacing the existing one at kilometer 25. This new infrastructure, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, aims to enhance traffic flow on the country’s main corridor between Santo Domingo and the Cibao region.

Rizik Lugo emphasized that this project is part of a broader modernization plan for the Duarte Highway, improving safety and efficiency. The relocation responds to long-standing demands from Pedro Brand residents, exempting them from paying tolls for local travel. The new toll station features 22 lanes—10 dedicated to the “Paso Rápido” system and 12 for manual collection, with all lanes equipped for electronic toll payments. It also includes a real-time monitoring center and a weighing system for heavy vehicles to prevent road deterioration.

As part of the toll system modernization, the standard rate will be RD$100 for light vehicles, applied in both directions. Additionally, in preparation for Easter travel, the government has waived toll fees on Holy Thursday and Easter Sunday to facilitate safer and more accessible transportation.
