Government to propose 30% wage increase in tourism

Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader announced a proposal to increase salaries by 25% in free trade zones and 30% in the tourism sector, as part of a broader strategy to reduce dependence on foreign labor and encourage the Dominicanization of employment. The proposal aims to address concerns over irregular migration, which has led to job displacement for Dominicans, particularly in key sectors like tourism and free trade zones.
Abinader emphasized the importance of creating more attractive formal job opportunities for Dominicans, especially as irregular migration has impacted local job markets. The proposed salary increases will be presented during tripartite salary negotiations between the government, employers, and unions, with the goal of making local employment more competitive and sustainable.
This initiative is part of a larger set of 15 actions by the government to tackle the effects of irregular migration, improve labor order, and strengthen national sovereignty, aligning with Abinader’s commitment to ensuring that Dominicans have access to secure, well-paid employment.
Just keep raisng cost and pushing dominicans out of jobs so you can replace them with those illegal Colombians and Venezuelans you love because of their skin color and cheaper labor. Why not reduce taxes? We already have some of the highest taxes in the world. Also, why are car/home loans 20-30%? People with careers are having trouble buying homes and vehicles. This country has never been in worse condition than now. You only want the rich. You don’t care about the real dominicans keeping this country running.
