Surge in voluntary departures of undocumented Haitians

Dajabón.- Over the past 48 hours, intensified immigration enforcement by the General Directorate of Migration (DGM), backed by the Dominican Armed Forces, has prompted a sharp rise in the voluntary departure of undocumented Haitian nationals—particularly in the Friusa and Mata Mosquitos areas.

On a single day during the weekend, more than 600 Haitians with irregular status crossed back into Haiti through the Dajabón border, marking a more than 300% increase compared to previous days. The DGM has expanded its operations nationwide, focusing on areas with high concentrations of undocumented migrants.

The Dominican Army, Navy, and Air Force have joined the efforts through their military police units. Defense Minister Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre has been personally overseeing some of these operations to ensure their effectiveness.

These actions are part of a broader national plan aimed at enforcing immigration laws, maintaining public order, and controlling irregular migration. Authorities confirmed that the operations will continue across the country in close coordination with the Ministry of Defense.
