Death toll from Jet Set collapse rises to 98; rescue efforts continue during the night

The death toll from the Jet Set nightclub roof collapse has risen to 98, emergency authorities reported at 12:05 a.m. on Wednesday.

Juan Manuel Méndez, director of the Emergency Operations Center (COE), said that emergency agencies will continue search and rescue efforts without interruption. He spoke from the so-called “ground zero,” located near the damaged entertainment venue.

He also reported that no one has been rescued alive from the rubble since 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Regarding the whereabouts of merengue singer Rubby Pérez, who was performing at the time of the collapse, Méndez said the search is ongoing, as the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) has not yet issued an official statement.

Meanwhile, past midnight, dozens of relatives and friends of the victims remained near the building, providing information to rescuers and waiting for news of their loved ones.
