Government launches investigation into Jet Set collapse

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican government has announced the formation of a technical committee, comprising national and international experts, to investigate the causes of the Jet Set nightclub collapse, which claimed over 215 lives, including beloved merengue icon Rubby Pérez.

In a nationally televised statement, authorities acknowledged the profound grief and shock the tragedy has caused, stating that rescue and recovery operations have concluded according to international emergency protocols. They thanked the emergency brigades for their professionalism and dedication during the crisis.

The government emphasized that the next step is to understand the cause of the collapse without rushing to conclusions. The National Office for Seismic Assessment of Infrastructure and Buildings (ONESVIE) will lead a technical study to determine what led to the disaster. This investigation will be carried out with full transparency and respect for the independence of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Reaffirming its commitment to justice, truth, and public safety, the government vowed to take all necessary steps to regain public confidence and ensure such tragedies never happen again.
