Dominican Army seizes nearly 7 million smuggled cigarettes in Montecristi

Montecristi.- The Dominican Republic Army (ERD) intercepted a major cigarette smuggling operation in Copey, Guayubín, Montecristi province, seizing a total of 6,796,000 illicit cigarettes hidden in two vehicles—a Ford F-150 pickup and a Mitsubishi Montero jeep.
The Ford truck contained 5 million units of Capital brand cigarettes, while the jeep held 1,796,000 units of Jaisalmer Menthol cigarettes. Neither shipment was registered with the General Directorate of Customs (DGA). The drivers of both vehicles abandoned them and fled upon spotting military personnel.
The seized contraband and vehicles were transported to the 4th Infantry Brigade headquarters, where they were placed under military custody. They were later turned over to the Specialized Corps for Fuel Control (CECCOM) for legal processing and investigation.
