Heavy truck traffic banned on “17” Bridge due to repair work

Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Public Works and Communications has announced a temporary ban on freight vehicles with three or more axles from using the Francisco del Rosario Sánchez Bridge, commonly known as the “17” bridge, starting Thursday, April 17. This restriction, part of ongoing repair work, will remain in place until the first phase is completed.

Alternative routes have been set for trucks with Restricted Access Zone (RAZ) permits. West-to-east traffic should use Kennedy Avenue, Francisco del Rosario Sánchez–Josefa Brea Avenue, the Duarte Bridge, and Las Américas. For east-to-west travel, routes include Charles de Gaulle Avenue, Hermanas Mirabal Avenue, and Máximo Gómez Avenue.

Vehicles without RAZ permits must follow designated bypasses outside the National District. The restrictions will be clearly signposted and monitored by COMIPOL and DIGESETT to ensure safe and efficient traffic flow during the construction period.

Unless there are police really doing their jobs at both ends of the bridge many heavy trucks will ignore this warning?
